The River pearls

Saint Hildegarde distinguishes river pearls from “mother-of-pearl pearls” found in the sea, which have no virtue for her. River pearls can be used, among other things, to purify water. The various uses mentioned by St Hildegard include dipping the pearls in water or heating them in the sun.
